Luxie Lunch Bag Sew A Long

Summer is in FULL swing, but back to school will be here before we know it! I know my list of projects for back to school is quickly growing, but at the top of the list is a new lunch bag for my soon to be third grader. After sewing up the Luxie, I don't know if I ever want to make or use a different lunch bag. I can easily fit my food containers without having to shove them in sideways, and the front zip pocket is perfect for stashing utensils or a couple bags of tea for later. Have I sold you on needing this pattern yet? Well, if you needed anymore convincing, it's the perfect for summer BYOB parties as Sincerely Jen shows you with her fab Luxie:

I will be be hosting a sewalong here on this blog from July 24-July 28th so you have plenty of time to order your supplies and pick your fabrics.

Here's what you will need:

1/2 Yard exterior Fabric
1/2 Yard exterior accent fabric
1/2 Yard lining fabric (PUL or some type of water restant fabric such as rip stop nylon or laminate is HIGHLY recommended...you don't want something in your lunch bag spilling and ruining your pretty bag.)1
1/2 Yard Insulated fleece such as Isulbrite
10" x 21.5" Foam Stabilizer
1.25 Yard of piping, premade or make your own
22" or longer bag zipper...double pull is what I used.
9" zipper
3/4 Yard of woven interfacing

Although this sewalong will run from July 24-28th, these posts will remain up to refer to, so no worries if you can't join up! I'd love to see your Luxie that you create, please share your finished bag!

Here's the Schedule:

July 24th: Cutting and prepping your fabrics
July 25th: Making piping and prepping zippers
July 26th:Assembling zipper pocket
July 27th: Handles and constructing exterior
July 28th: Making lining and putting it all together

I hope you'll join us!

Don't forget to share your photos to the Emmaline Facebook group, or on Instagram with the hashtag #Luxiesewalong! I'd love to see your progress shots and as a bonus, those who share their completed Luxie using the hashtags by July 31st will be entered to win one of three Emmaline Bags Gift cards! You could win a 10, 15 or even a 20 dollar gift card to Emmaline Bags (think of all the bling!).

To get notifications for the sewalong, you can join the Facebook event I created here

Looking forward to the sew along even though I have made one always learn a new technique.

I have everything I need, but will be camping that week! I am glad the posts will be available after those days. Looking forward to making this! I made the small version at a quilting retreat and love it! Thanks for this opportunity.

My soon to be third grader needs a new lunchbox too and I've been looking at patterns. Got the Emmaline Bags newsletter today and see your sew along. Could I ask a huge favor? Would you be so kind as to take a photo of your bag with containers in it? I would love to see what it holds for school lunches. Thank you so much.

Date booked on my calendar, pattern bought, hardware on hand and now off to choose fabric from my stash.

I understand that I would have to purchase the pattern, plus supplies but how do we fallow along?

I know someone with dementia who has difficulty finding things in her purse. This would make a perfect purse for her. So I won't need the insulated material. Would I need all the rest of the materials?

Pattern ordered. How do I sign up?

Will this work without the two way zipper?

I just brought the frames at a guild meeting. I can't wait to try this out!

When will the sew along be posted after it's done? I prefer to buy it once it's done as I can do it at my pace.

What are you using for the filler in the piping? I tried using the cording material from SewDaKine but wasn't happy with the results. Thanks.
